Natwest Student Bank Account

Last updated: 12th August, 2013

Natwest student bank accountThe Natwest student account has been very popular with students in the past. It still has some great  features but unfortunately their 2012 student bank account is not as enticing as previous years.

See which bank accounts were top in 2012 with our student bank accounts 2012 guide.

The Natwest 0% student overdraft is tiered over both terms and years when you are at university. The Natwest overdraft is guaranteed but only if you make at least 3 debit transactions a week and deposit £750 every 6 months (your student loan should cover that).

You will qualify for an increase based on past spending and your current credit rating. Check your credit rating with a free trial at Credit Reports Matter.

Year 1 – £1,000 (Term one £500; Term 2 £750)

Year 2 – £1,250

Year 3 – £1,500

Year 4 – £1,750

Year 5 – £2,000

Going over the limit

If you go into your unarranged overdraft you will be charged a large amount so make sure that you talk to a bank advisor before you get into any trouble. You could also switch your overdraft to another account that offers a larger 0% interest.

Arranged – 0%

Un-arranged – £6 per item.

Natwest student freebies

Natwest have a discount card and £100 off of ASUS laptops to all of their customers.

If you have had a Natwest account from before May 2012 you will be eligible for the 16-25 railcard. It’s a great freebie so if you are already with Natwest we would definitely suggest sticking with them (if you planning on a lot of travel).

Your natwest student debit card can make free withdrawals at almost all cash machines and is also great for online payment as it is a Visa Debit card.
